Organic Shiraz

Minimal impact on the environment and resources is an important aspect of the Rusty Mutt ethos. Reducing harmful chemical use not only benefits the grapevine, but us wine consumers as well! The biggest difference with this wine and my normal wines is in the vineyard. Very few chemicals are used, those that are, are certified for use in organic food production. Other natural and biological agents are used in place of chemicals to ensure the health of the vine, soil and surrounding environment. There are very few differences in the winemaking practices. All of the additions I currently use on other wines are certified for use in organic wines! The total sulpher dioxide (preservative) level also has a much lower upper limit. However nearly all of my other wines are under this level. We release the wine younger as we cannot risk any oxidation which may lead to the addition of more sulpher.

Tasting Notes;

Incredibly youthful vibrant purples with depth and intensity. With time in the glass, aromatic red berry fruits and this vineyard’s hallmark violet floral character grows in intensity. Sweet and savoury Teriyaki notes fill out this compex aroma. Forget any preconcieved ideas you may have about organic wines. This is a McLaren Vale Shiraz first and foremost. Bright fruit, dark chocolate texture and a savoury meat umami flavour that leaves you wanting more. The tannins are young but surprisingly smooth, which roll to the perfectly gentle acidity on the finish.
